My work has always been deeply affected by the natural environment. Where I grew up, the  richness of the African colors of the earth and skies seeped into my work. As a result, I have always been concerned with the spiritual impact of nature on my life. My recent work is primarily concerned with memories of past landscapes with a sense of deep longing.

My earlier abstracted figurative shapes evolved into biomorphic shapes which seemed to struggle to survive.  I gradually realized through my art process that I was primarily talking about the environment’s struggle to survive. I do not start with a specific end product in mind. Rather, I allow the process to inform me of the inner workings of my mind: my concerns, my struggles, my values and my spiritual being.

Art gives us the space to contemplate our relationship to the world. My collage and mixed media work encourages and invites the viewers into a self reflective space. As I tap into my own meditation practice, I express my deep love and longing for the natural world.

The materials I use come from my own encounters in nature. These images, fragments and fossils are buried, excavated and resurrected by layering with collage papers and paint. My goal is to gently bring the community into a quiet state of reflecting on their own connection to nature and what they are doing to preserve it.

My works communicate fragility and peace at the same time.

My images of nature convey longing and even beauty in their brokenness. My Wabi Sabi series of works conveys this sense of impermanence and fragility that is present for me in the natural world. The Revive series alludes to the contrast between the sharp edges of our industry interfering with the organic world.

In addition to my personal work, I am a passionate creativity coach, guiding artists and non artists alike. The Art Process Studio is an online and in person entity. From this process oriented philosophy I encourage and support anyone who wants to explore their creativity as a means of self discovery and healing. Businesses and corporations seeking to provide wellness programs to their employees have successfully used the services of The Art Process Studio.
